APG Goes Red: 2019

We take heart health seriously around here, and we like to have fun promoting it too!

Go Red 2019 Primary

We all have stories about how our lives have been touched by cardiac events. Today – National Wear Red Day – is a great time to remind each other about the importance of taking care of yourself and your heart.

APG has been participating in Wear Red Day since 2013 along with with our very own Sarah and Tim Smallwood. They challenged us to be aware of our own heart health in memory of their daughter, Sophia, who was born prematurely with a heart defect. We remember Sophia today and stand behind her family as promoters of wellness and advocates for heart health.

Taking care of your heart is important. Sonja, on our Memphis team, loves to share the story of her nephew, Noah. After enduring four open heart surgeries to correct two different heart defects, he is now an active, happy young boy – you'd never know he had been ill! Kara, on our Akron team, shares her daughter Ellie's story of open heart surgery. Just 6 months old at the time, Ellie spent 12 days in PICU, and thanks to advances in care, has grown into a happy, healthy 4 year-old!

Today, we encourage you to learn about heart health: know your numbers and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The American Heart Association has so many resources to help you along your health journey!

It can be hard to so stay motivated, so check out this article for some ways to stay on track – because Life is Why! A big thank you to Sarah and Tim, Sonja, and Kara for letting us share their stories!
